O Come All Ye Faithful is a popular Christmas Carol in Western culture. It was created in the 18th century and was composed in 1744 and released in 1751 by John Francis Wade. It was originally written in Latin (Adeste Fideles). This Christmas carol has been atributed to many authors, including John Francis Wade, John Reading, and King John IV. The hymn's initial four verses were expanded to eight, and these have been translated into several languages. In most English-speaking countries, the English rendering of English Catholic priest Frederick Oakeley's 1841 hymn 'O Come, All Ye Faithful' is widely used. Wade's hymn is a straightforward carol that tells a story of Jesus' birth. Its upbeat lyrics ('Sing, all ye people of heaven above!') encourage us to join the angels in cheering at the birth of the Christ child. It is the most popular religious carol after Silent Night.
